CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WTVR)--Chesterfield's public safety community is mourning the loss of one of their own tonight.
Jordan Kuzik, a 19-year-old volunteer firefighter, died in his sleep unexpectedly late last week.
His father is Sgt. James Kuzik, with Chesterfield County police department, told CBS 6 that his son died from heart complications.
Jordan was set to marry his high school sweetheart in mid-March.
"That boy was always smiling, trying to make everyone feel better,” Sgt. James Kuzik said. “He always wanted to help.”
“He got the firefighter bug at a young age and wasn't interested in my side of public service,” he added.
Sgt. Kuzik said his son will be laid to rest Thursday. He wants to thank the Gage Edwards memorial, or G.E.M. Foundation, for helping with burial expenses.
