HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -- An electric heater that was too close to a bed may be to blame for a home fire late Sunday night. According to Captain Daniel Rosenbaum with Henrico Fire, firefighters responded to smoke and a small fire on the 8300 block of Cardova Rd. just after 10 p.m. Sunday.

One person inside was able to make it out uninjured and crews brought the fire under control just before 10:30 p.m. The Fire Marshall's Office is still investigating the exact cause of the flames. A woman has been displaced due to the fire and is staying with friends.

Henrico fire officials want to remind you heating equipment is one of the leading causes of fires in homes and is a significant cause of fire related deaths.

Their advice, leave about three feet of space between space heaters and anything that can catch fire.
