DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -- The driver of a tractor-trailer is recovering in the hospital after Virginia State Police say he fell asleep at the wheel.
The driver was traveling northbound on I-85, about 22 miles south of Petersburg.
State police said 47-year-old Terry Curry, of Waxhaw, N.C., swerved to the left, over corrected, then lost control and overturned before hitting the guardrail on the right side of the highway around 3:30 a.m.
The driver, who suffered serious non-life threatening injuries, was taken to Southside Regional Medical Center.
One other vehicle was involved in the accident after hitting metal piping the truck was carrying.
Curry was charged with reckless driving.
The northbound lanes were closed from around 10:30 a.m. until around 1:15 p.m. as crews removed the semi from the interstate.
