HAMPTON, Va. (WTVR) — The Hampton Police Department is spreading holiday cheer with its rendition of Jingle Bells aimed at keeping shoppers safe.
The department posted a video on YouTube Friday to let crooks know the department has partnered with Santa to deter crime during the holidays.
“Santa paid us a visit recently,” the department posted on its Facebook page. “We put our own spin on Jingle Bells.”
In the video, Officer Smith starts daydreaming after he is asked to think outside the box when it comes to keeping holiday shoppers safe.
The video fades to a dream sequence where Smith dons a Santa hat and belts out a Jingle Bells remix.
“Please pick up the phone, if you think you need police. The number is 911 for emergencies,” officers sing. “Shoplifting is a crime and Santa doesn’t play. So if you see a criminal, call HPD today.”
The video the shows a crook grab a woman’s purse. But the bad guy eventually runs into Santa and is promptly arrested by one of Hampton PD’s finest.
“If you wanna steal, you better go think twice. Cause we’ll know where you are, with Santa as our eyes,” officers sings.
The video, which had over 3,000 views as of Sunday evening, was featured on “Good Morning America” Sunday morning.
