McDonald’s accidentally hands out money at drive-thru

HERMITAGE, Tenn. — A Tennessee couple “cashed in” big at their local McDonald’s when they opened their to-go bag and found thousands of dollars.

Greg and Stacye Terry found three clear bags filled with dollar bills and change after a routine trip through McDonald’s drive-thru.

“My husband opened the bag and discovered there was money inside and said you’re not going to believe this,” Stacye Terry said.

An employee at the McDonald’s discovered the mistake quickly and was able to catch up with the couple. The Terrys immediately returned all the cash.

“The second that he said it was their deposit, my first thing was get in the truck let’s take it back. There is no other way to have it, I couldn’t live with myself with that,” Greg Terry said.

The couple said after this experience, they can’t wait to see what happens during their next trip through the drive-thru.

“We are grateful for this customer and the action they took upon realizing our error,” McDonald’s said in a statement. “We are looking into why this mistake happened, but what is most important to us is knowing that we are part of a community with the values that were evidenced by this person’s actions.”
