HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) — A Mechanicsville teen was charged with reckless driving in connection with a deadly wreck earlier this week.

The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office was called to Old Cavalry Drive and Gettysburg Lane, which is in the Battlefield Green subdivision, Monday around 8 a.m. for a crash involving a pedestrian.

Deputies said the teen was driving a Jeep Cherokee on Old Cavalry Drive when it slammed into 65-year-old Dennis J. Tobin as he was checking a flat tire on his Buick Regal.

The SUV also slammed into victim’s car, which deputies said was parked along the curb on the right side of the road.

Tobin, of the 6000 block of Northfall Creek Parkway in Mechanicsville, was rushed to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. However, Tobin died on Wednesday from injuries sustained in the wreck.

The 17-year-old male was charged with reckless driving. Officials said neither speed nor alcohol appears to have been a factor.

The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.
