RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) — Virginia State Police released a report with accident statistics from over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend.
11 of the accidents were fatal. Eight of those killed were not wearing seat belts and alcohol was a factor in four of the crashes.
Two of the deadly accidents occurred in Mecklenburg County.
One of those two claimed the life of a 76-year-old passenger and injured eight others. The accident happened Sunday on Route 58. The deceased victim was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle as it overturned several times.
Other crashes happened in the City of Norfolk, which killed a pedestrian. Accidents also took place in the counties of Bedford, Carroll, Chesterfield, Frederick, Hanover, Henrico, Louisa and Prince George.
VSP responded to a total of about 1,200 accidents throughout the holiday weekend, which counts between November 27 and December 1.
