CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) — Chesterfield police say a man carrying a BB gun was arrested in connection with an attempted bank robbery Friday morning.

The incident happened at the Wells Fargo bank branch at 7202 Midlothian Turnpike around 10:30 a.m.

Police said 49-year-old Marcelo A. Ortega, who was carrying what looked like a firearm, walked into the bank and handed a teller a bag to fill with money.

Bank employees were able to sound the alarm and police arrived while Ortega was still on the scene.

Ortega, who did not receive any cash, was nabbed by police. Investigators said he was carrying BB gun.

Ortega, of the 8700 block of Shadymist Drive, was charged with attempted robbery, abduction and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in relation to the incident.

Ortega is being held at the Chesterfield County Jail.
