Chesterfield police arrest teen for VSU student’s murder

CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WTVR)-- Chesterfield police have arrested a suspect in relation to a shooting that left one man dead in the 4000 block of J. Mitchell Jones Drive on Thursday, Nov. 21.

At about 11:30 p.m. Thursday, police responded to the 4000 block of J. Mitchell Jones Drive for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon.

Upon arrival, officers located Eric N. Wilkins Jr., 22, outside an apartment building. Wilkins, a Virginia State University junior student who lived in housing on campus, had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Friday afternoon, police arrested and charged Bryan W. Williams Jr., 19, with first degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in relation to the incident.

Williams, of the 1900 block of Tolbert Terrace in Chester, is being held at the Chesterfield County Jail without bond.

The apartments are considered off the Virginia State University campus, but are exclusively for VSU students.
