MIDLOTHIAN, Va. (WTVR) - American Legion Post 186 in Midlothian has a new name.
A special dedication ceremony was held Saturday morning in honor of Major Charles A. Ransom. Ransom died while serving in Afghanistan back in 2011.
To honor him, the post has decided to rename the building after him to Major Charles A. Ransom American Legion Post 186.
"It was just breathtaking really," said Charles' father, Willie Ransom.
Charles Ransom was a member of the post, and the first person at this location to be killed in the line of duty.
"This was, I think, really the essence of what America is about. It's dedication to those who serve," House majority leader, Eric Cantor.
The First Vice Commander of Post 186 told CBS 6 News that Charles was a 2001 Virginia Military Institute Graduate, and Charles' class paid to put up the new sign at the post.
