CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - As Chesterfield police continue to investigate thecrash that killed bicyclist Gary Burton on Huguenot Road Tuesday evening, more details are being released about him.

"We believe that he was riding to my sister's house just down the road,” Burton's daughter Ashley Ovsijenko said.

Chesterfield police said Burton was riding on Huguenot Road when he swerved in front of a pickup truck and was struck.

Ovsijenko said her father knew how to navigate the busy road on his bike. She said her father must not have seen the truck approaching.

Ovsijenko said her father loved politics and was a dedicated public servant. She said he was a Richmond city planner and a former New Kent County administrator.

But to Ovsijenko, her father was a man who had a zest for life and loved his family.

"I will miss him every day for the rest of my life," she said. "I think he would want us all to be strong and try to make this a celebration of his life, which is what we're going to do."
