HENRICO COUNTY, Va (WTVR) -- There are eight finalists vying to take over the Three Chopt District seat left vacant in August. The public is being invited to weigh in on who they want to see take over as the fifth board member.
The vacancy was created when Diana Winston resigned on August 12, after questions were raised about close relationships between her family and Superintendent Patrick Russo--who remains on paid leave.
As it stands the new board member will represent 17 schools, the most in any one district. Already the eight finalists have met with the board behind closed doors, but now the public will have a chance to offer its input.
"All the eight candidates who are up for this position have a passion for public service and a passion for doing what's right for kids in Henrico County," district spokesman Andy Jenks said.
The public hearing will take place at 6:00 p.m inside the School Board meeting room at the New Bridge Learning Center, 5915 Nine Mile Road in Henrico.
The School Board is expected to appoint the new member in time to introduce them during it's September 26 meeting. The new member will serve on the School Board representing the Three Chopt District until a replacement is elected.
