VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WTVR) -- Virginia Beach's first African American police officers were honored by the city this weekend.

Three more former officers were added to the honoree list during a ceremony at the Cox Cultural Pavilion.

The department said the ceremony was an opportunity to shine the spotlight on the men who may have been momentarily lost in history.

For one of the surviving officers, it was a proud moment.

One former officer said he went on to work with NCIS and the FBI.
