CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WTVR)– Traffic is now clear along I-95 South after a 16 mile backup stretching from Caroline County into Hanover County earlier Saturday afternoon.
Traffic congestion started a little after 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning on I-95 South.
By 1:00 p.m. traffic was congested for 16 miles starting around mile marker 108 in Caroline County and continuing to mile marker 92 in Hanover County.
Around 4:00 p.m. congestion on I-95 North stretched for three miles starting just before the I-295 exit.
VDOT said the back-ups were just congestion. There was no crash and there was no road work being done in the area.
To avoid the congestion, VDOT offers two alternate routes for southbound travelers:
1. Exit 110 (Ladysmith) to Route 1 South. Re-enter I-95 in Ashland at Route 54 (exit 92).
2. Exit 104 (Carmel Church) to Route 207 to Bowling Green. Then take Route 2/301 South to I-295 in Hanover.
