NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WTKR) – Newport News firefighters battled a fire that damaged 19 storage units early Sunday morning.
The blaze started just before 1 a.m. at the Public Storage facility at 11887 Jefferson Avenue.
The fire affected 30 storage units at the facility.
Several additional fire units were called to the scene because of the hot and humid weather.
Jefferson Avenue southbound and St. Thomas Street near the area were closed while crews battled the blaze for five hours.
There has been no word yet on how the fire started.
