RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) — There’s still a month left in summer, but Richmond police are making sure area kids are ready to head back to school now.

Officers took a group of 30 children shopping Tuesday at the Target on Forest Hill Avenue. Each child was able to pick out everything from notebooks to backpacks and even clothes.

Many of the children’s families wouldn’t have been able to afford the supplies without the help of the community.

The “Shop With a Cop” event is a part of the YMCA’s Bright Beginnings Program.
