HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - A Highland Springs resident found a baby gator making a wooping distress noise right by his home.
"He started making that hiccuping noise--that call of distress," resident Kent Taylor said. "I looked at the animal control officer if we should get out of there and he said, 'Probably a good idea.'"
Game and Inland Fisheries Officer Lee Walker said the alligator was probably a pet that grew to a size that was too large to manage.
According to Animal Control, the baby gator most likely came from the Chickohamony Swamp, just 125 feet away from Taylor's home.
Taylor said he is going to keep a close eye on his bushes from now on.
On Friday, the gator was sent to his new home at the Luray Zoo.
