FREDERICKSBURG, Va.(WTVR) – Two animal rescue workers have been charged with animal cruelty after leaving puppies in a hot van.

Fredericksburg Police say Gail Wells and Melanie Bolton left the dogs in their vehicle while stopping to stay at the Hospitality House on Plank Road on Sunday.

Police say the women paid the extra fee to take the puppies inside, but didn’t.

When officers found the four puppies the temperature was in the 80’s. They told both women to take the dogs inside and give them water.
