HOPEWELL, Va. (WTVR)– Police are investigating a double shooting that occurred early Saturday morning in Hopewell.
According to Hopewell Police, officers responded to the 1800 block of Freeman St. for a report of shots fired around 4:40 a.m.
An investigation revealed that there was a large crowd in the 1800 block of Freeman St. who were engaged in a physical altercation.
During the altercation, shots were fired and two victims suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds.
The first victim, 27-year-old Jonathan Jennings of Prince George suffered a single gunshot wound to his right knee.
Offender Anthony D. Paschal, 26, of Hopewell suffered a single gunshot wound to his right thigh.
Both victims were transported to John Randolph Medical for treatment.
Police say that an investigation revealed that Paschal, who was already in the area, heard a disturbance at the dead end of Freeman St. and went to see what was going on.
When Paschal approached the area he was confronted by an unknown black male who started pushing him.
At this time Paschal pulled out a hand gun and started shooting into the crowd. One of the bullets struck Jonathan Jennings in his right knee.
The investigation also discovered that another unknown suspect started shooting and shot Paschal in the right thigh.
Warrants were obtained on Anthony Paschal for Aggravated Malicious Wounding, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, and Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling.
Paschal was treated and released from the hospital.
