(WTVR)—Around 6 p.m. Monday night the sheriff's office responded to a shooting at the Dawn Convenient store on the corner of Route 30 and Route 301 in Caroline County.
Workers called police after a man was shot, while getting out of his truck. Police said they don’t believe this shooting is random.
First responders on scene told CBS 6 news reporter Jon Burkett that the injuries are life-threatening and police said it is serious. The victim was taken to VCU Medical Center.
The sheriff's office said that the person of interest is Wayne Douglas Harris, a black male who is 6 foot tall and weighs around 145 bs.
While forensic officers processed the scene, detectives questioned everyone that was in the area at the time of the shooting, hoping to find what triggered the violence in what's normally a rural quiet community.
"The preliminary investigation does reveal these two apparently knew each other," said Sgt. Karl Eichenmiller.
Authorities aid that Harris was last seen driving a faded light blue Ford F150, 90s model.
Officers asked the public to please use caution as subject may be armed and dangerous.
