NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -- It's now illegal for truck drivers to use their handheld phones while behind the wheel. And local law enforcement is cracking down on those who break the law.

CBS 6 rode along with New Kent Sheriff's deputies Tuesday as they pulled over and ticketed drivers.

Their campaign, which is the first of its kind in the nation, is designed to reduce distracted driving crashes among truckers.

Deputies said they are specifically targeting truckers, not just because of the law, but also because trucks are larger, so the devastation can be much worse when they are involved in crashes.
