Gov. McDonnell’s former senior aide faces assault charges

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR)—Governor Bob McDonnell's former top aide faces assault charges.

Eric Finkbeiner faces charges for misdemeanor assault and violation of a protective order.

His lawyer confirmed the charges to CBS 6 today, and added that the woman involved was also charged in the case.

According to online district court records, Finkbeiner was charged Wednesday with four counts of misdemeanor assault and two counts of violating a protective order.

The dates of offense for the assault charges are listed as May 12, 2012, Oct. 4, 2012, Nov. 4, 2012 and March 31, 2013. Records list March 24, 2013 and March 30, 2013 for the protective order offenses.

Finkbeiner worked as McDonnell’s senior policy adviser and was a cabinet member. He left to work for a Richmond law firm and has recently lobbied for the Washington Redskins.

Finkbeiner is due in court next month, June 20.
