UPDATE: Father, son killed in Suffolk plane crash

SUFFOLK, Va. (WTVR) -- State police have released the names of the two people killed when after an experimental plane crashed in Suffolk on Saturday afternoon.

Suffolk police said the crash happened around 1 p.m. near the Suffolk Executive Airport as the plane was en route to the Festival of Flight.

State police said 73-year-old Berry Raymond Newgent, of Davidsonville, Maryland, and  his son, 51-year-old Thomas Berry Newgent, of Westminister, Maryland, were killed when their single-engine, experimental plane crashed.

Police said Berry Newgent was the owner and pilot of the plane.

State Police said the plane attempted to land several times at the festival and then crashed in a field near the airport.
