CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - The large brush fires that closed sections of Route 288 in Chesterfield earlier this month were ruled "accidental," according to Chesterfield Fire and EMS spokesman Lt. Jason Elmore.

Elmore said investigators believed the fires were started by something like a discarded cigarette butt or a spark from a vehicle, but no exact cause can be determined.

The April 10 brush fire burned a total of 75 acres.
