The Hanover County Sheriff’s office is investigating a Monday afternoon crash that involved a pedestrian and a deputy.

Police said that based on independent eye witness accounts, the deputy was driving his unmarked car down South Washington Highway near Junction Drive when he hit a 24-year-old man who was trying to cross the street from the median.

The sheriff’s office says it appears the deputy was driving through a green light when the crash happened.

The pedestrian was taken to VCU Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The deputy sustained minor injuries, police said.
