COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WTVR) -- The 17-year-old girl charged in the beating death of a Colonial Heights man was granted a $250,000 bond Wednesday.

Investigators believe the teenager kicked Rusty Mack in the head during a mob attack last month.

Police said the alleged attack happened around 10 p.m. on Feb. 11 when four people arrived. Witnesses said Mack was lured outside his apartment. [Click here for complete coverage of this case]

Mack’s estranged wife, 19-year-old Ashley Kate Mack, was arrested and charged with murder. Two other suspects arrested in the case, 20-year-old Jonathan Brice Guy and the 17-year-old, also face murder charges. Francis Joseph Blaha III, 20, of Colonial Heights was later arrested and charged with murder by mob.

The beating initially left Mack in a coma, but he died weeks later.

As news of Mack's death spread, hundreds turned up for a vigil and benefit to remember the man loved ones described as a sweet and fun-loving person.

“You don’t realize how many people do care until something like this comes about,” Melissa Herman, Rusty’s aunt, said. “We’re all sticking together, and we know that he’s in a better place. He’s not suffering anymore.”
