RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – A broadening winter storm in the Heartland will impact us Friday into Saturday. With below-freezing temperatures Friday morning in central VA, freezing rain and sleet will move in from the southwest around sunrise. Precipitation will be light to start, but will mean icy impacts for your Friday morning commute. The greatest icing threat will be along I-81 and in approximately the western third of Virginia. Even as surface temperatures in Richmond rise above freezing later Friday morning, sleet will continue to mix in with the cold rain through mid-day in the Metro. Cold rain will continue into Saturday morning, but temperatures will not fall back to or below freezing for the rest of the event. So that means the first half of Friday is my concern for you!
