Police now say teacher ‘inadvertently’ touched boy’s face

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – There is new information about what led to the arrest of a Chesterfield band instructor accused of assaulting a student.

Police said Matoaca Middle School instructor Michael Harrah was charged after “inadvertently touching the boy in the face while trying to get him to pay attention.”

Investigators originally reported that Harrah had struck the student during the January incident.

Still, CBS 6 is told the magistrate saw enough probable cause to issue a warrant for Harrah’s arrest.

Chesterfield County Public Schools said Harrah was removed from school after the incident – and whether he will return depends on the outcome of his case.
