CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) — Police have arrested a Chesterfield County middle school teacher for allegedly hitting a student.

Chesterfield police said 50-year-old Michael S. Harrah was charged with assaulting a juvenile male at Matoaca Middle School on Jan. 14.

Officials said Harrah, of the 12600 block of Jolly Place, was arrested without incident on Tuesday, Jan. 15. He was released on a summons pending trial.

Police said Harrah struck an 11-year-old boy during class.

Shawn Smith, a Chesterfield schools spokesperson, called the charge very serious charge and said that Harrah was removed from the school after the incident two weeks ago.

“The employee will not return to the school pending the disposition of the charge and the administrative process,” Smith said in a news release.
