CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WTVR) - A student police say was behind a gun hoax at the University of Virginia Wise County campus is now facing federal charges.
Investigators say Bryant Alexander Hairston called police on Jan. 23 claiming he'd seen an armed gunman on the school`s campus. As a result, the entire campus was placed on lock down as officials canvassed the grounds.
In a subsequent interview, police say Hairston, a sophomore psychology major, admitted to making up the story. On Monday, he was charged with knowingly making false, fictitious and fraudulent statements.
