CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - Police have arrested a suspect following the shooting of a Chesterfield teenager. The accused gunman is a teenager. Police said the injured 16-year-old male was shot in the face. Investigators called the shooting accidental.
According to Chesterfield County Police, the suspect involved is another 16-year-old male, who has been arrested and charged with felonious assault and reckless handling of a firearm.
Chesterfield Police are still investigating Sunday night's shooting along the 6700 block of Irongate Drive. Detectives are hoping to learn how the juvenile suspect came into possession of the firearm used in the shooting. Officials said it does not appear the weapon was owned by the parents of either the suspect or the victim.
The 16-year-old victim was taken to VCU Medical Center with what are described as non-life threatening injuries.
Police have not yet released the identities of either the suspect or victim, because of their ages.
