Mostly clear skies and light winds allowed temperatures to drop into the teens and lower 20s across south-central and southwestern Virginia. These were some of the coldest temperatures since late February and early March.
A deck of mid and high level clouds increased after midnight for the northern half of the state. The cloud cover acted like a blanket and kept temperatures from falling off too much more after about 2 a.m.
It will be fairly cold again Sunday night into Monday morning, but many areas will see lows in the upper 20s and lower 30s.
