RICHMOND, Va (WTVR) -- Earlier today hundreds of volunteers were taking the "giving" in Thanksgiving to heart. For the seventh year The Giving Heart Foundation community feast welcomed those, who may have otherwise been forced to go without a meal for the holiday.
Hundreds of volunteers served nearly 3,000 Thanksgiving meals at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. In addition to good food, live music was also a part of today's festivities. And new or gently used shoes and clothes were also handed out.
"I'm thankful for the people I see out in the area, and the people in the environment, friends and relatives; and I give thanks to God," Andrew West said after enjoying the feast.
"No matter who you are you are coming in here, and I just love it," the Giving Heart Founder Vicki Neilson said.
A local company also presented The Giving Heart Foundation a check for $1,175 to go towards helping even more during their time of need.
Organizers said they began prepping for the Thanksgiving feast more than a month in advance.
