HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WTVC) - A pickup truck and an ambulance carrying five people collided head-on this morning on Highway 58 in Hamilton County, Tennessee. The driver and passenger in the pickup truck were both killed.

There were five people in the ambulance, including a nurse, two paramedics, and a special needs patient and mother.

The ambulance did not have the lights or sirens on because it was taking the patient to a scheduled doctor's appointment.

"The 1997 pick up truck for some reason was traveling northbound in the south bound lane and it was a head on collision," Hamilton County Sheriff's Department Janice Atkinson side.

Both victims were women in their 20's who lived less than a half mile from the accident, witnesses said.

The five people on the ambulance were all treated for non-life threatening injuries.
