EASTERN SHORE (WTVR) – The Virginia National Guard rescued a family and another person from Sandy’s flood waters in the Eastern Shore.

They took seven adults and one child to safety on a boat Tuesday because water was chest high.

Soldiers had to trudge through two miles of water and clear trees to get to the stranded people.

Since Sunday 34 people have been rescued in the Eastern Shore and six firefighters had to be treated for injuries suffered while doing it.
