CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) –  Police have arrested a Chesterfield man on animal cruelty charges after a dog was found dead on his property.

Chesterfield Police Captain R. Michael Louth said the arrest stemmed from an earlier report of animal neglect.

Louth said as animal control officers were investigating the treatment of a dog in the 9400 block of Lost Forest Drive on Oct. 11 when they found the animal’s dead body.

As a result, the officers took the dog’s body to a veterinarian, where a necropsy was performed.

Police charged Carroll Edward Dyke Sr., of the 9400 block of Lost Forest Drive, on Tuesday with Cruelty to Animals, a class 1 misdemeanor.

Dyke is slated to appear in court on Dec. 19.
