Update: The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office has arrested the mother of the abandoned baby.

18-year-old Viktoria Williams was arrested on a Felony Child Neglect Warrant at the Sheriff’s office Saturday night.

She is being held at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail without bond.

YORK COUNTY, Va. (WTKR) – A newborn baby girl was found abandoned in the woods in York County Saturday evening.

According to the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office, a person walking in the area near the woods on Middle Road in the Dandy area of the county heard a baby crying around 4:30 p.m.

The person followed the crying and located the girl, who was wrapped in a towel, in a wooded, swampy area.

The baby was checked out by medics and then taken to the hospital.

Doctors estimate that she is approximately 3 days to a week old and is too young to determine an exact race at this time.

The infant is being cared for at a local hospital. It appears she does not have any life threatening injuries or conditions.
