HENRICO, Va. (WTVR) – Shots were fired during a pursuit Sunday morning, following a two-county police pursuit.

Police responded to a call for medical assistance at a Forest Lawn Cemetery near Richmond International Raceway. Officers approached a white male, who refused medical assistance and then fled in his black vehicle.

The suspect has been identified as 25-year-old William R. Hedgepeth, II of the 9300 block of Mooreland Road, in Henrico.

Police said that his vehicle failed to stop for the officer and a pursuit was initiated near Laburnum Avenue.

The pursuit began in Henrico and then went through the city of Richmond where it ended near the intersection of Patterson Avenue and Three Chopt Road, where the police car and suspect’s vehicle collided.

The suspect then fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood.

An officer discharged his weapon and has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

Hedgepeth suffered non-life threatening injuries from a gunshot wound to the arm and was transported to VCU Medical Center.

He has been charged with felony eluding.
