RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Two storms we’ve been monitoring in the open Atlantic Ocean this week underwent rapid intensification Wednesday, both becoming hurricanes. Hurricane Leslie is already producing rough swells and riptides along the Mid-Atlantic coastline, and that threat will continue through the weekend as the storm passes east of us.
Smaller than Leslie in size, but stronger in intensity, is Hurricane Michael farther to the east in the central Atlantic. Michael could become the first major hurricane of this season in the Atlantic Basin.
