Richmond teen faces 3 arson charges for Hanover fires

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – An 18-year-old from Richmond accused of setting fires in a Mechanicsville neighborhood is facing three charges of arson.

Jacob G. Spiro, of the 3900 block of Monument Avenue in Richmond, was arrested Friday night after a search warrant was executed at his residence.  

Spiro was arraigned Monday morning in Hanover General District Court.

He is being held without bond because prosecutors said hey found evidence that this type of behavior could continue. The teen is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 11 at 9 a.m. 

Spino was due to start classes at JMU Wednesday. A check of a local school roster shows that Spiro was part of the 2012 graduating class at Atlee High School.

For months, people in King’s Charter lived on edge after an arsonist zeroed in their community, setting three different fires that caused damages well over a half a million dollars. That included damages to the clubhouse and pool area.
