RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – A big water main break is causing some traffic troubles for commuters Friday afternoon.

Richmond Department of Public Utilities’ Angela Fountain said the break involves a 16-inch water main created a large hole filled with water.

The massive hole has closed one lane of Cary Street near 10th and 12th streets. That’s near the Tobacco Company, the Omni Hotel and Bank of America.  The lane closure is expected to last through rush hour.

Crews are working to drain the water from the hole to figure out exactly what went wrong.

As of 3:30 p.m., the water had not been shut off the water, so there have been no water outages or pressure issues.
