BRUNSWICK, Va. (WTVR) The driver in a single vehicle accident survives, while his sister, mother and wife all died, and three others were treated for minor injuries.
The accident happened on north bound Interstate 85 at mile marker 24 in Brunswick County.
Virginia State Police said that Jose Anthony Ayber Jr., was traveling in the north bound lanes when the vehicle, a 2002 Ford Explorer, suffered mechanical failure.
Police said the vehicle swerved, lost control, and overturned several times. Three of the seven occupants were ejected.
Two passengers died at the scene, and another passenger died on the way to the hospital, said police. The driver and the surviving passengers were transported to several different hospitals.
Tiffany Cadral, sister of the driver, and 8-years-old, was seated directly behind the driver. She was ejected and died at the scene.
Crystal Nicole Ayber, 22-years-old and the wife of the driver, was seated in the middle row behind the front seat passenger. She was also ejected and died at the scene, said police.
Ms. Noella Oliveras, 43-years-old and the mother of the driver, was seated on the passenger side of the rear third row seating. She was ejected from the vehicle, and died on the way to the hospital, said police.
The driver and passenger were both wearing their seat belts and were transported to South Hill Community Memorial Hospital, suffering minor injuries.
The other two passengers, females, were transported to the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, suffering life threatening injuries.
Police emphasized that alcohol and weather were not factors in the accident.
The passengers who died were not wearing their seat belts, said police. At this time no charges have been placed against the driver.
