(WTVR) - The pilot who survived a midair collision between two planes in northern Virginia is now out of the hospital.

The Associated Press reports that 70-year-old Thomas Proven was recently discharged from Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg.

Proven is the sole survivor of Monday's crash, which took place near the Warrenton-Fauquier Airport around 4 p.m..

State police said the two planes crashed to the ground approximately a mile apart from one another. Additionally, officials said parts of the planes and debris were scattered between the two crash sites in a secluded and difficult to access area.

Investigators from Canada have been called in to handle the probe, since both planes were either owned or operated by employees of the NTSB and FAA.
