RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Drivers experienced some major traffic delays in Richmond Thursday afternoon after a gas leak closed down two major roads.
Crews responded to Midlothian Turnpike at German School Road around 4 p.m. for a report of a gas leak.
Richmond Fire & EMS Lt. Hagaman said they are not sure if the leak was caused by a pressure release valve – or if a contractor hit the one-inch gas main.
All lanes on the Midlothian Turnpike were shutdown and that traffic was rerouted. Additionally, the north and southbound lanes of German School Road were also closed at the intersection.
Richmond Fire & EMS Lt. Hagaman said they are not sure if the leak was caused by a pressure release valve – or if a contractor hit the one-inch gas main.
Two nearby small businesses were also evacuated as a precaution.
