JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WTKR)-- James City County search and rescue crews found the body of 18-year-old Trevor Times Tuesday morning shortly after 10 a.m., officials say.
His body was found about 35 feet off shore, where the water was nearly six feet in depth.
Police say Times’ father confirmed that it was his body.
Police spokesman Stephen Rubino says 18-year-old Trevor Times, a senior at Jamestown High School, was swimming with friends in College Creek near Colonial Parkway in James City County on Monday afternoon, when he disappeared.
He was trying to swim to a sandbar 75 yards away. He started to struggle, then went under shortly after 2:00 p.m. Monday afternoon.
Officials say rip tides in the water contributed to his struggle.
Officials say the area is a popular swimming spot, but many signs are visible that warn swimmers of the dangers of strong rip tides and deep water.
