WASHINGTON (WTVR) - On this Memorial Day, President Obama said via his weekly radio address that he and the First Lady will celebrate the holiday with veterans and their families at Arlington National Cemetery and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
ABC News Radio reports that the federal government is working with state and local governments and organizations to launch the Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War.
The President says the nation needs to serve its veterans like they have served us. "By making sure that they get the healthcare and benefits they need; by caring for our wounded warriors and supporting our military families; and by giving veterans the chance to go to college, find a good job, and enjoy the freedom that they risked everything to protect."
The First Lady's veteran initiative, "Joining Forces," has been in effect for over a year.
