Actor Gary Sinise, known for playing Vietnam War amputee Lt. Dan in the film “Forrest Gump,” is keeping his promise to a Virginia Marine who lost his limbs at war.
The actor will be in Martinsville Thursday helping raise money for Cpl. J.B. Kerns, 22, of Patrick County.
Kerns lost his right arm below the elbow and both his legs below the knees in an explosion in Afghanistan in 2011 during his third tour of duty.
Sinise will play a benefit concert with his band, named after his fictional Lt. Dan character.
The money raised will help build a "smart home" for Kerns. The homes are designed to be more accessible to wounded veterans.
