Thursday is regional, kindergarten registration day

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Thursday, April 19, is the day for parents across central Virginia to register their children for kindergarten.

The United Way of Greater Richmond and Petersburg has brought all ten school districts together for a second year to host registration on the same day.

Registration will take place at the school your child is expected to attend next school year. Parents can find that information by going to school their respective school district’s website or calling.

The following information is provided by the United Way of Greater Richmond and Petersburg:

Charles City County-


Registration Window: 9 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.

Chesterfield County-


Registration Window: 9 a.m.- 7:00 p.m.

Goochland County-


Registration Window: 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.

Hanover County-


Registration Window: 8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.

Henrico County-


Registration Windows: 8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m.

New Kent County-


Registration Window: 9:30 a.m.- 11:00 a.m.

Powhatan County-


Registration 8:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.- 7 p.m.

City of Colonial Heights-

Registration begins at 6:00 p.m.

City of Petersburg-


Registration Window: 9:00 a.m.- 7:00 p.m.

City of Richmond-


Registration Window: 8:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.

Parents should bring proof of residence, their photo I.D.’s, their child’s social security number, a  School Entrance Health Form, and a certified, original birth certificate for the child.

12,000 kindergartners are expected to enter local school systems in the coming school year.
