RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR)- Spring is in the air, and it’s just about time for a growing tradition to return to the River City.

The first home game of the season for the Richmond Flying Squirrels is still more than a week away, but  fans don’t have to wait until April 12th to meet the team.

On Tuesday, the Flying Squirrels kick off  their third season in Richmond by offering fans a chance to see the players in action.

John Laaser, Director of Broadcasting for the Squirrels, says there are lots of entertaining events in store this year.

“We’ll have the same amount of fireworks shows as we did last year, probably add to that at the end of the season. And then we’ve got a lot of giveaways. We’ve got an additional nine this year. We’re actually giving away a pony at a game in July,” said Laaser.

Fans can catch the Squirrels first, public pre-season workout and get autographs from the team,  beginning at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
