Henrico Mom Charged with neglect in infant death

HENRICO COUNTY, Va (WTVR)- Henrico police arrested Jasmine Shaquay Norman Wednesday at her eastern Henrico apartment.

She was booked at the Henrico County jail hours later for a felony child neglect charge stemming from the February 13th death of her two month old son Jermiah.

In February, police say Norman told detectives that she was in the kitchen of her Oakmeade apartment cooking a pizza around midnight.

She claims she heard a noise in the living room and discovered her infant with a bag over his head in a bouncy swing and her other 18 month old son close by. Detectives have been working the case since and charges were brought forth.

CBS 6 legal expert Todd Stone says child neglect is a class four felony which if convicted, Norman could face up to ten years in prison.

Norman has a preliminary hearing Thursday morning.
